Students have the right to apply for recognition of prior learning. The recognition is based on the skills of the student regardless of the ways the fore mentioned expertise has been acquired. The student has the responsibility to demonstrate the skills required in the study objectives and to provide the required information and documentation based on which the decision for approval will be made.

Profile of the programme
The Bachelor of Engineering degree programme in Information and Communication Technology is a four-year first-cycle polytechnic degree which provides students with a strong expertise in the chosen sector of information and communication technology combined with a profound multidisciplinary skills and knowledge in engineering and natural sciences, readiness and skills for effective project work and fluency in documentation and communications.
Key learning outcomes
After the first year studies the students choose their ICT specialization from six major options. Majors are Software Engineering, Game Applications, Media Technology, Health Technology, Mobile Solutions and Smart IoT Systems. Depending on the chosen major in the curriculum the graduates will have the skills and knowledge to design, implement and operate computer networks, backend and front end solutions, network connected sensor and actuator systems, wireless communication and virtual server systems. Additionally all the graduates have the skills to function as a productive member of a project team with fluent communication and documentation skills.
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Information systems, embedded intelligence and mobile solutions are the key elements of modern society and everyday life. Engineers with strong expertise in various fields of technology are required to administrate systems of the modern era and to advance the technological development further. The curriculum in Information and Communication Technology degree programme aims at educating qualified engineers with skills required by ICT career. A graduate from information and communication technology works in private or public sector for example as a software developer in software production, as a research engineer in product development designing systems with embedded intelligence, a solutions engineer designing network or cybersecurity solutions or as a specialist in technical support, in customer services or in technical sales.
Access to further studies
A graduate is eligible to apply for Master's Degree studies in a university after completing the first-cycle polytechnic degree. Special arrangements apply to application for Master-level studies in a university of applied sciences as there is a requirement of two years of work experience after completion of a bachelor-level degree.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
The assessment criteria are defined in the degree regulations of Metropolia and course-specific requirements are described in the course descriptions in the curriculum.
Graduation requirements
A student is eligible to graduate when he/she has completed all the required courses set for the degree as a present student (extent 240 ECTS credits).
Mode of study
Studies are implemented as courses, course modules or projects. Studies include contact teaching and self-study.
