Specific admission requirements

Applications should be made through joint national application system. You will find more info from www.mteropolia.fi.
All the eligible applicants will take part to the entrance exam. Eligibility is defined like in general all the polytechnic studies.
All the applicants to the construction architect degree should take part to the national technology and transport exam and to the construction architects aptitude exam.

Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

Prior learning recognition and accreditation (= RPL) in accordance with the general principles of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
Construction Architecture course units will take mainly into account design-related skills.

Qualification requirements and regulations

The awarding of Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) diploma requires the acquisition of no less than 240 ECTS points during 8 semesters. An academic year of day studies is equivalent to 60 ECTS points.

Profile of the programme

With the bachelor of architecture studies a student will reach the required skills for an undergraduate academic degree building designer. The specialisation options through the elective studies are architectural design, building economy or renovation.

Key learning outcomes

As a result of the studies are the building designers, who have also strong technical knowledge. Architecture studies combine technical, artistic and economical skills.
Studies includes, beside the building design studies, architectural history, building construction, building services, building economy, building management, teamwork, communication and art studies.
Basic studies include information technology and building Information modelling (BIM) studies.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Bachelor of Architecture works in design offices, public administration, construction companies, developer companies or as entrepreneur.
After required professional experience Bachelor of Architecture will fulfil the class: Demanding designer. See Finnish building act 120 e §.
Bachelor of Architecture’s duties include e.g.
- design of small and medium-sized buildings, work as an assistant designer for major projects
- renovation design and condition surveys
- planning tasks for construction industry
- planning project management and construction management
- building supervision

Access to further studies

After completing Bachelor of Architecture degree student has a possibility to apply for master degree studies in higher academic education.

Mode of study

Full-time, daytime studies.Attendance at lectures and rehearsals is compulsory.
Studies in Metropolia UAS Construction Architecture contains the use of computer-based studies. All the students must have a personal laptop computer. This is needed for the studies in campus and homework.

Bachelor's Degree (First Cycle)

Workplacement(s) and Work-based Learning

Construction Architects degree includes 30 ECTS credits internship. Three first study years have the 10 ECTS credits internship at the end of spring semester. First placement will be in the building site and two others either in design work or construction management.
Part of the courses of Construction Architecture are performed with companies. Course named Innovation project (10 ECTS credits) is a students’ independent project with companies.

Obligatory or Optional Mobility

Students of Construction Architecture are able to apply for student exchange according the instruction of Metropolia UAS.
