Descriptions

Cultural manager is an enabler of cultural activities, responsible for organizing and leading production processes. Cultural managers play a key role in the planning and implementation of cultural services. They ensure that cultural and experience-based services reach their audiences and meet set objectives. Often acting as bridge-builders between creative content creators, financial management, and customers, cultural managers integrate these perspectives into impactful and results-driven operations.

Graduates from Metropolia’s Cultural Management program pursue diverse careers in cultural event and project management, cultural business development, and industry innovation. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary and business-oriented learning, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of cultural management processes. Our goal is to educate responsible professionals who work proactively in multidisciplinary teams and networks while shaping their expertise based on their strengths and interests.

A rapidly changing operational environment places new demands on cultural managers. Key professional skills in the field include analytical and creative thinking, technological competence, and a forward-thinking approach. In Metropolia’s Cultural Management program, students develop these skills by combining research-based knowledge with practical examples. Advanced projects and extensive professional networks provide up-to-date and concrete insights into the diverse nature of a cultural manager’s work.

Sustainability is at the core of cultural management. Future cultural managers must be capable of making decisions that support ecological, economic, social, and cultural sustainability. In the 2025 curriculum, sustainable development is embedded throughout the studies, deepening students' expertise and preparing them to meet future challenges.

The program also offers students opportunities for internationalization through study exchanges, international internships, and collaborative projects. Internships and the thesis project, conducted in cooperation with industry partners, support students’ professional growth and integrate them into the cultural sector.

Development

The 2025 curriculum has been updated by integrating a sustainability strand, which deepens students' expertise throughout their studies. Event production skills have been strengthened with content on technical skills, site planning, procurement, and ticket sales. Leadership competencies have been developed through a course on supervisory work and project management, preparing students for future leadership roles. The renewed curriculum enhances collaboration with industry partners and ensures that graduating cultural managers possess the expertise required in their field.
