Profile of the programme

The studies in HVAC engineering and electrical building engineering provide the students with the theoretical knowledge necessary to work in demanding design and development tasks within their professional field, or in engineering the studies aim at practical engineering tasks, such as project and work management and the design of standard HVAC systems. .The aim of the Degree Programme in Building Services Engineering, Property Management is to provide the student with the basic knowledge and professional skills needed to work in the field, as well as the ability and motivation for lifelong learning and following the development in one’s professional field. The emphasis of the studies is on practical engineering tasks.
. Furthermore, the importance of mastering the real estate business as a whole is stressed. Once graduated from the Degree Programme in Building Services Engineering, a student has not only the knowledge and skills required in the field, but also the capability to follow the development of the field and the motivation to life-long learning.The student will have the knowledge and skills required in the professional studies in mathematics and natural sciences, as well as in practical information technology and communication. The student will acquire an overall understanding of the IT systems and environments on a general levelThe goals are reached by studying the basics of building services engineering and constructionthoroughly on a system level, without an in-depth study of planning that requires dimensioning. The focus of the advanced professional studies is on real estate economics, property management, legislation, real estate management and leadership.

A Bachelor of Engineering in building services engineering can work in specialist tasks in construction, environmental engineering and related fields. The typical jobs include tasks in construction planning, building and usage and maintenance of buildings both in Finland and abroad, as well as tasks in HVAC research, development and marketing, and community development. The job titles include e.g. HVAC designer, project manager, works manager, HVACE supervisor, technical property manager, maintenance manager, facilities manager, production manager, researcher, product manager, environmental inspector, inspection engineer or senior construction engineer.
Bachelors of Engineering specialised in property management work in various expert tasks in real estate and construction, as well as in other related fields. The job title can be for example real estate manager, real estate services manager, technical property manager, property manager, project manager, works manager, maintenance manager, production manager or senior construction engineer.
The technology used in buildings is becoming more and more sophisticated and the circumstances in the use and ownership of real estate are changing. In property management this means that there will be an increasing demand for versatile expertise in the area of real estate technology, economy and management.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. At the beginning of the course, students must be informed on the assessment principles which must be based on the course objectives. Assessment takes primarily place for each course and applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If necessary, different components of a course may be assessed individually. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.
The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.
