Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
A prosthetist and orthotist is employed mainly by private orthopaedic workshops / centres and technical mobility aid centres of hospitals and other organizations in the social and health care system. He/she has preparedness to work as a self-employed person. A prosthetist and orthotist works in client service, supervision of work or comparable in the design and fabrication and as an expert in the P&O and rehabilitation teams. He/she can work also in the sales and marketing departments of the companies selling P&O and rehabilitation devices.
Key learning outcomes
Key learning outcomes are specified in the programme study plan.
A prosthetist and orthotist will define together with the client the need of device, and on the ground of the assessment he/she will design and fabricate a device or a control system that can support and/or enable the client's working order. In addition to the assessment he/she will give guidance in the use of the appliance, organize follow-up and needed special services to the client.
The core subjects of prosthetics and orthotics training are: 1) Client-centered, multi-professional skills, 2) Assessment of Prosthetic and Orthotic Needs and Human Functional Capacity, 3) Prosthetic and Orthotic skills, 4) Material and Workshop Technology, 5) Entrepreneurship and Business Skills, 6) Professional Development and Research Skills.
The sphere of responsibilities of a prosthetist and orthotist include artificial limbs, orthoses/braces, mobility aids, orthopaedic shoes, aids for activities in daily life and environmental control, and appliances used in the rehabilitation; it is to ensure their design, fabrication and functionality in different situations.
Graduation requirements
The student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses.

Obligatory or Optional Mobility
Erasmus exchance studying 3-5 months.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Examination regulations, assessment and grading are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. The student will be informed at the beginning of the course on the assessment principles, which must be based on the course objectives.
