Profile of the programme

Studies of the first year and half of the second study year of Electronics curriculum are organized in co-operation with Degree programme in Smart Automation. First year's fundamental studies aim to build a strong technical and theoretical base for professional studies. During first and second year students wills study professional studies, mathematics, physics, English and other fundamental engineering studies. International students will start studying Finnish language in the beginning of their studies and will study altogether 20 ECTS of Finnish during the two first study years.

During third and fourth study year student will deepen their skills and knowledge in different branches of Electronics with advanced special studies in Radio Technology and Wireless Communication, Embedded Systems and Measurement Technology and Microelectronics. They will learn the core principles of sustainable development. Students have also a possibility to expand their professional skills with elective project or entrepreneurship studies. Students will complete innovation project during the third or fourth year. Finnish students will complete also the second national language course. The internship periods may be carried out during the study periods of the fourth year or alternatively during the summer periods between the semesters. During the final study year students will carry out a bachelor thesis on a topic related to electronics.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduated electronics engineer can become an expert for example in designing and implementing wireless sensor systems for environmental control and energy efficient housing. Electronics engineers will work for example as an electronics designers in a research laboratory with other specialists and design electronic circuits for different applications with a team.
Electronics engineers also work in the factories manufacturing and testing devices as well as in the actual use, sales and marketing of the devices, since many of the devices are so complex that the deep knowledge of the engineer is needed in these activities. Engineers can be managers running a team of specialists responsible for the manufacture. In this role the environmental issues are also strongly emphasized.

Key learning outcomes

Versatile skills in electronics and specialization in some field of electronics more closely.
