Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Biomedical Laboratory Technologists work in expert assignments in their own field in various laboratories within the health care sector, in medical and biosciences research institutes and teams and in companies manufacturing and marketing health care and laboratory products.
Access to further studies
Access to Master’s Degree studies at a university of applied sciences or university. Access to specialisation studies.
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. Students will be informed at the beginning of the course on the assessment principles, which must be based on the course objectives.
Graduation requirements
A student is required to successfully complete the designated program of courses meet a minimum of 210 ECTS credit requirements
The student has gained such oral and written skills in the obligatory language required by the degree programme that are necessary for practicing the profession and for further professional development (Decree 352/2003, 8 §). The student has acquired the oral and written language skills in Swedish required of state officials functioning in a position requiring a higher education in a bilingual office according to the Act (424/2003, 6 §) with a grade of satisfactory /good on the scale of good/satisfactory applied in public administration.
The student has received school education in the Finnish language, completed the maturity test included in the final project in the Finnish language.
The degree fulfills the criteria laid down in the Act (559/1994 and 1200/2007) and the Decree (564/1994) on Health Care Professionals and the European Parliament and the Council Directives 2005/36/EC, Article 11, level d.
75 ECTS credits of practical training are included in the curriculum.

Practical training is a part of degree programme in Biomedical Laboratory Science, 75 cr.
In the beginning of her/his studies the student familiarizes with working life during short period and practices in a simulated environment in biomedical laboratory science class room. After being at more advanced level in her/his studies she/he practices in different clinical placements.
Obligatory or Optional Mobility
International studies are part of the learning path of each learner in the form of international exchange, practice placement or international studies within home institution, such as common core requirement studies in English or Finnish degree programmes or open studies in international network learning environments.
