Objective
Learning outcomes
As a student you are able to guide and instruct patients in a client-centric manner in clinical physiology, neurophysiology and nuclear medicine examinations and explain the pre-analytical factors associated with the examinations. You can explain the significance of these examinations in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases. You can explain the principles of clinical physiological, neurophysiological and nuclear medicine examination methods and devices. You comply with quality management principles when conducting clinical physiological, neurophysiological and nuclear medicine examinations. You are able to register the heart’s electrical activity and perform a high-quality ECG registration, as well as registering the most common special leads. You can name the sources of errors in ECG registration, recognise artifacts on an ECG tracing and know how to remove them. You recognise a normal electrocardiogram and the most common anomalies. You can describe ECG findings that require immediate treatment. You know how to measure blood pressure. You also know the other common heart and blood circulation examinations and their purposes.
You are familiar with the basics of pulmonary function tests. You can describe the acceptance criteria for pulmonary function tests and are able to identify sources of errors in them. You can explain the importance of patient guidance for the reliability of pulmonary function tests. You recognise the changes caused by asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the values produced by a spirometry test.
You are familiar with the theory of EEG registration and the most common artifacts in an EEG. You know how to place EEG electrodes according to the 10–20 system. You know the basics of an electroneuromyography (ENMG), evoked potential tests and sleep studies.
You comply with the principles of radiation protection and attend to radiation protection at the individual and community level. You possess the necessary knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals, radiation protection, radiobiology, radiophysics and equipment technology, as well as the use of radiation.

The course's orientation class is mandatory.
Nuclear medicine, physics and radiation protection: Lectures, group work and presentations, laboratory work (Mandatory), Moodle-exam, visit in Nuclear Medicine Unit.
Radiation legislation: the class will review the level of requirements according to the Radiation Act (895/2018) and the regulations specifying it (1034/2018, 1044/2018), Moodle exam.
Clinical physiology: Mandatory attendance in laboratory teaching, absences to be compensated.
Clinical neurophysiology: laboratory teaching is mandatory.
Physics of clinical physiology and neurophysiology, Moodle exam.
In-depth anatomy and physiology: 11 hours of compulsory face-to-face teaching and before that review assignments on the anatomy of the heart, respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract and nervous system.

Further information
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.
Practical workshops are compulsory, absences must be compensated.

The assignments and MATERIALS prepared by the teacher are works according to the Copyright Act (404/61), to which the teacher has the copyright. Assignments AND MATERIALS may not be used other than in their own studies. Their public distribution is only allowed with the teacher's permission.
Students are not allowed to use artificial intelligence to create the content of works without separate permission or approval. If needed, instructions on the use of artificial intelligence during the course are given separately. Students should familiarize themselves with Metropolia's AI guidelines and follow them in their study assignments.
Assignments must be returned on time, in order to be evaluated during the course. It is not possible to raise assignment evaluation.
A failed exam (after the last retake) means that the course is completed completely or, where applicable, retaken.

Nuclear medicine and isotope physics: Exam, evaluation 0-5.
Radiation legislation: Exam evaluation pass/fail
Clinical physiology and neurophysiology physics Moodle exam, evaluation pass/fail.
Advanced anatomy and physiology: preliminary assignments, mandatory participation in close study, assessment pass/fail.
Radiation biology: pass/fail (passed completion includes giving a presentation).
The overall grade of the implementation consists of the average of the grades of the sub-exams (amount of credits = a weighting factor).
It is possible to increase the grade of the course by taking the mentioned re-examinations. The increase applies to the grade of the entire course and it can only be implemented once during the repeat exams of the course.
If the tests have not been completed by the 2nd re-examination date, the test will be assessed as failed and the student must register for a new test.
If the student has not returned the assignments by the second re-examination day, the student is removed from the implementation in order to register for the new implementation possible.
