Descriptions

The aim of the programme is to develop a thorough understanding of the factors affecting to the sustainability of buildings and to provide skills to design, build and manage healthy, energy efficient and durable buildings.

After completing the programme, the student
-can design the constructions and HVAC-systems of a single family house;
-can compare different construction and building services (HVAC) designs to find an optimal solution for indoor environment and energy efficiency;
-can assess the environmental effects of the building using environmental assessment tools;
-can act as site manager and/or specialist foreman; and
-can optimise the use of recycled materials, minimize the waste flows and avoid damages to the surrounding nature environment.

Development

The programme started in 2011. In order to be able to flexibly plan the contents based on the industry needs, the curriculum will be developed year by year as the first group of students proceeds in their studies.


Rakennus- ja kiinteistöalan asiantuntijat esittivät englanninkielisen koulutusohjelman tarpeen jo Metropolia AMK:n valmisteluvaiheessa. Rakennus- ja kiinteistöalalle asetetut globaalit energiatehokkuuden haasteet ja kestävän kehityksen tavoitteet ovat johtaneet ohjelma suuntaamiseen rakennusalan kestävään kehitykseen. Esimerkiksi Valtioneuvoston tulevaisuusselonteossa on asetettu tavoitteeksi vähentää rakennuskannan energiankulutusta 60 prosentilla vuoteen 2050 mennessä. Tämän tavoitteen saavuttaminen edellyttää alan parhaan kansainvälisen osaamisen viemistä insinöörikoulutukseen.

Koulutusohjelman suunnittelu on toteutettu yhteistyössä rakennustekniikan ja talotekniikan koulutusohjelmien neuvottelukuntien kanssa. Opetussuunnitelman sisältöä on muokattu neuvottelukuntien ja rakennusalan kestävän kehityksen asiantuntijoiden lausuntojen perusteella. Lisäksi suunnittelua on tehty yhteistyössä ulkomaisten yhteistyökorkeakoulujen kanssa (mm. HTW Berlin). Koulutus mahdollistaa vaihto-opiskelijoiden vastaanottamisen sekä kotimaisten opiskelijoiden kansainvälistymisen kotimaassa.

Työllistymisnäkymät koulutusohjelman tarjoaman osaamisen alueella ovat lähivuosina erinomaiset. Kansainvälisesti kestävän kehityksen haasteet ovat sekä virallisesti että sosiaalisesti perusteltuja. Ohjelmasta valmistuneet voivat sijoittua esim. vientiprojektejeihin ja kv-yrityksiin, suunnitelun, tuotannon ja ylläpidon sektoreilla. He tuovat Suomessa toimiville julkisen ja yksityisen sektorin toimijoille uusinta kv-tietotaitoa ja kontakteja.
