Objective

The student will be able to apply the basic laws of mechanics to construction engineering problems.

Content

Physics and building technology. Quantities and units. Kinematics of translational motion. Types of forces, force diagram and Newton’s laws. Energy, work and power.

The student is able to
work with basic physical equations and perform simple mechanics unit conversions
describe uniformly accelerated rectilinear motion
draw a force diagram of a body
model the dynamics of a body subject to parallel forces
describe the concepts of energy and power

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to
work with physical equations and perform mechanics unit conversions
describe rectilinear motion computationally and graphically
draw the force diagrams of a many-body system
model the dynamics of a body
model energy conversion and transfer in simple systems

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to
work with physical equations and perform mechanics unit conversions
describe rectilinear motion computationally and graphically and identify the components of multidimensional motion
draw the force diagrams of a many-body system
model the dynamics of a many-body system
model multi-stage energy conversion and transfer
