Profile of the programme

The programme specializes in sustainable building engineering. It will offer both general building engineering skills and the understanding of the principles of life cycle engineering in buildings. The student will learn the basics of civil engineering, indoor environment energy and skills in facility management.

Key learning outcomes

The study programme contains a total of 240 ECTS credits including basic and professional studies, elective studies, projects, work placement and a Bachelor's Thesis, usually commissioned by our partners in industry. A significant part (over 60 ECTS) of the studies will be carried out in real working life projects, starting from the first study year. An international exchange period can be included in the curriculum.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

This programme trains professionals that are ready take on different projects either locally or at international scale. At the building site a sustainable building engineer is able to use recycled materials, minimize the waste flows and avoid damages to the surrounding nature. As a facility manager, he/she knows how to reduce the use of energy and other resources, and where to locate new activities in a sustainable manner.

Access to further studies

Opportunities for further study are a Master's degree as well as a Master of Science degree, which give validity to more complex construction specialist positions.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

Course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. At the beginning of the course, students will be informed on the assessment principles which must be based on the course objectives.

Assessment applies to the students who have registered and been accepted on the course. If the course consists of several components, the teacher may point this out in the assessment principles contained in the implementation plan.

Different components of a course may be assessed individually.
The assessment scale is as follows: 5 excellent 4 very good 3 good 2 very satisfactory 1 satisfactory 0 fail H pass

Students that fail a course may re-sit the exam twice on specified dates.

Students will be provided with feedback and assessment within four weeks of their course performance and in any case well before the next possible retake. The teacher in charge of the course will ensure that the course grades are entered in the study credit register after the assessments have been made public. Grades for successfully completed courses that have been entered in the study credit register cannot be erased. The course coordinator or teacher files the documents used as the basis for student assessment for six months, counting from the publication of the assessment.
