Descriptions

The curriculum for the Degree Programme in Fashion and Clothing takes into account the broad scope of the apparel industry and its diverse functions and tasks. It is competence-based, aiming to educate strong professionals who can broadly operate as experts in the fashion and clothing industry.

The entire lifecycle of a garment is covered in the curriculum. The courses introduce various aspects of industrial product development and the processes of productisation. The content includes themes and skills increasingly actual in working life: creative problem-solving, sustainability, utilisation of digital tools, communication, internationality, and collaboration. Cross-cutting themes also include responsibility, sustainable development, circular economy, and economic viability.

The curriculum emphasises the student’s competence in industrial manufacturing and product management in an international operating environment of the fashion industry. Students learn to assess the quality, structure, and durability of products, utilize digital tools, and operate in global networks while considering the principles of responsibility, circular economy, and sustainable development.

The degree Bachelor of Culture and Arts (240 ECTS) qualifies graduates to apply for the Master’s Degree Programme in Fashion and Clothing or for other suitable Master’s degree programmes in higher education.

Development

Opetussuunnitelman tavoitteena on vastata tulevien vuosien ja vuosikymmenen osaamistarpeisiin toimialalla. Vaatetusalan opetussuunnitelman kehittämiseen on osallistunut tutkinto-ohjelman opetushenkilöstö. Alumneilta ja opiskelijoita on saatu työhön arvokasta tietoa. Tutkinto-ohjelman ammatillinen neuvottelukunta ja sen työelämäedustajat ovat prosessin aikana antaneet palautetta uudesta opetussuunnitelmasta.

The Degree Programme in Fashion and Clothing provides a broad set of skills and knowledge to work in a variety of positions. Graduates find employment in companies both domestically and around the world. Their expert roles in the fashion industry can involve such areas as technical product development, quality management, sustainability, business, entrepreneurship, marketing, assortments and purchasing operations.
