Objective
The student can communicate in Swedish in different social and professional situations in writing and orally. The student has the language skills and competences required by the Finnish Education Law 352/2003 8§ (concerning Universities of Applied Sciences) of the second official language in Finland. The skills and competences of the student meet the language requirements of the level B1 of the European Frame of Reference.
The student is able to find field-related information from different sources and convey information both orally and in writing utilizing the possibilities presented by technology and digitalisation in field-related work tasks. The student becomes able to take responsibility for developing their own language and communication skills and able and motivated to develop them.
Content
- Essential international and domestic-international interaction situations: individual and group communication
- Essential business concepts and terminology
- Business organizations, work environments, tasks, processes and tools
- Self-evaluation of language and communication skills, learning strategy development
Students learn to use the vocabulary of their chosen field both orally and in writing.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student is able to analyze the business sector expertise and the development of his/her own expertise.

The course content is determined individually for each degree programme and integrated into the
degree context in the curriculum and into substance studies. Oral and written language skills are
assessed separately.
