Descriptions

During the first year of Electrical and Automation Engineering studies, a theoretical and technical foundation is laid for future professional studies. During the first year, students also complete the Minno 1 and 2 project studies. he first year of studies is common for all multiform learning students. In the multiform learning program of Electrical and Automation Engineering, students have the opportunity to specialize in two different majors: Automation Engineering or Electrical Engineering. The major selection is made in the spring of the first year, and major-specific studies commence in the second year.

The structure of the studies is as follows:
• Common studies 55 ECTS
• Second-year main subject-specific professional studies 60 ECTS
• Main subject-specific advanced studies 30-55 ECTS
• Optional study module and elective studies totaling 0-25 ECTS
• Metropolia Minno Studies 10 ECTS
• Language Studies 10 ECTS
• Profile Studies in Working Life Skills 5 ECTS
• Two internship periods 30 ECTS
• Thesis 15 ECTS
TOTAL 240 ECTS

The second-year professional studies are mandatory and uniform for all students who have chosen the main subject. The Professional English course is recommended to be completed during the second year.

In the third and fourth years students deepen their expertise in their chosen major with advanced studies, of which students must choose at least 30 ECTS. In the Automation Engineering major, students can specialize in robotics, information technology in automation and building automation. In the Electrical Engineering major, advanced studies allow specialization in Building Electrical Engineering or Electrical Power Engineering.
Students can broaden their expertise with an elective study module or elective studies. During the third and fourth years, students will also complete the Minno 3 project, academic communication and the second national language according to their language of school education.

Through the Profile Studies in Working Life Skills the student develops transversal working life competences. The studies provide the student with the abilities needed for working life skills and career planning, broad digital competencies, international and sustainable working life, promotion of wellbeing, as well as language and communication proficiency. The student can choose studies from one subject area or several different subject areas based on their own interests. Profile Studies in Working

In addition to these studies, students must complete two mandatory 10-week internships in the field and, finally, carry out a thesis on a topic related to their degree program.

Development

The curriculum is reviewed annually as part of the work of the advisory board for the degree programme in electrical and automation engineering. The curriculum was approved by the Advisory Board at the meeting on 28 October 2024.

Further information

The curriculum is copied from the previous curriculum (TXJ24S2). The curriculum has been amended in line with the Metropolia OPS25 degree structure.

XX00FW79 Sustainability in the European Urban Environment is a separate course in the curriculum. The sections on Artificial Intelligence and Information Security (0.5 credits) are integrated in TX00GE75 Orientation to Engineering Studies and this is reflected in the course description.
