Course unit code: TX00GJ35

General information

Credits
1 cr

Objective

The student will understand the basics of autonomous mobile robots, their applications and key technologies. They will be able to identify the main components of robots, such as sensors (LIDAR, cameras, GPS, IMU), actuators and control systems, and be able to explain their operating principles. The student will master the basic concepts of navigation and positioning, such as SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) and route planning algorithms. They will be able to assess safety and ethical issues related to autonomous robots.

Content

1. Basic structure and operation of mobile robots
2. Applications and safety of autonomous mobile robots

Qualifications

No prior knowledge requirements.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
• understands the basic components of mobile robots and their principles of operation.
• can name application areas and identify key safety challenges.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student
• can analyse the role of different components in an autonomous system.
• will be able to justify safety aspects in different applications.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• can evaluate and compare the suitability of different technologies for mobile robots.
• can critically analyse safety risks and propose improvements.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Passed Fundamentals and Technologies of Autonomous Mobile Robots (1 ECTS) requires the student to understand the basic components of mobile robots and their principles of operation, to be able to identify and describe the application areas of mobile robots and related safety issues, and to pass a theory exam or quiz. Failure means that the student does not demonstrate sufficient understanding of the components of mobile robots, is unable to identify application areas or assess safety issues, and does not pass the theory test or the quiz.

Further information

Fundamentals and Technologies of Autonomous Mobile Robots (1 ECTS) is conducted independently in an online environment, including theoretical overviews and quizzes. The delivery method is flexible and can be done at your own pace within the time limit.
