Descriptions
The aim of the Metropolia UAS Prosthetics and Orthotics degree is to train competent, innovative and self-developing professionals who meet the requirements of a changing society and technological development. The rapid development of the field and the individual needs of customers challenge professionals to continuously learn and find new solutions. In line with the growing needs of social, health and rehabilitation services, training emphasises broad technical skills, the ability to work in a multidisciplinary way and a holistic approach to the client and his/her environment.
The training of Prosthetics and Orthotics places particular emphasis the application of technology, understanding ergonomics and supporting the client's ability to function by individually tailored solutions. The studies require students to be active, responsible, able to work in cooperation with different professional groups and to assess and develop their own professional skills.
In Prosthetics and Orthotics studies, customer expertise is a key part of education. It means the ability to understand the individual needs and wishes of the client and to communicate clearly. Students learn to take a holistic view of the client's functional capacity and to work with a wide range of professionals to tailor the aids to improve the quality of life of the user.
A solution-oriented approach and problem-solving skills support the identification of client-specific challenges. Patient safety requirements demand a sense of responsibility and accuracy. It also requires adaptability and a willingness to learn.
The training includes professional studies in clinical work, projects and Internships. The studies of the Prosthetics and Orthotics education are carried out at Metropolia UAS Myllypuro campus, where modern learning environments, technology laboratories and cooperation with working life partners and customers offer unique opportunities for multidisciplinary and practical learning environment. International co-operation and skills are also acquired through projects with exchange students from abroad.
Study planning is flexible: personal choices and the recognition of previously acquired skills (AHOT) allow you to the preparation of personal study plan (HOPS). The HOPS is updated and guided as the student progresses in order to achieve individual goals.
Development
Additional information:
The curriculum for the Degree Programme in Prosthetics and Orthotics has been developed in cooperation with students, alumni, representatives at the workplace and the negotiation committee of the degree programme. In their meeting 12th of January, the negotiation committee supported the development work done and decided to recommend the implementation of the revised curriculum. By encouraging different forms of cooperation, such as projects carried out with the workplace and supervision and evaluation practices related to work placements, we gain knowledge from the work environment, which will be used to develop the curriculum further. Every term we organize development discussions involving each of the student groups providing us with valuable information on development targets and implementation of studies.
