Descriptions

Cultural managers are the facilitators of cultural projects, who organize and manage productive operations. They ensure that a cultural service is well planned, realistically carried out, reaches the clients and meets the content objectives. Cultural managers graduating from Metropolia work as event and project managers, and in positions linked to business, productization and development. The Degree Program in Cultural Management is multidisciplinary and focused on business skills. The aim is to become an expert, who masters the fundamental processes in arts management and who specializes in becoming a proactive member of multidisciplinary teams and networks.

In a rapidly changing world, creativity and the capability of learning together with other people are crucial. At Metropolia, these skills are learned through practical project work and industry networks. Cultural managers must also be able to make ethnically and economically sustainable decisions in their work.

Cultural management students create their own competence profile through elective and advanced studies and projects. Students are supported in internationalization, both in their coursework and through a possible student exchange or international internship. The student reinforces their own profile and integrates into working life through internships and theses commissioned by the industry.
The 2020 curriculum has been renewed by strengthening the areas of service productization, community facilitation, responsibility and technology expertise. At the heart of industry partnerships is a development collaboration that supports learning for all, discovering new things and developing a sustainable urban culture.

Objective

After completing the degree, the student is able to organize and manage production activities. A cultural manager can design a cultural service and implement it realistically so that it reaches its customers and achieves its content goals.

The cultural manager is capable of acting responsibly in the business, commercialization and development of culture. They have the ability to operate in a multidisciplinary work environment and inspire collaborative, future-oriented work.
