Objective

The student understands the importance of storage conditions and protective materials for the preservation of photographic materials. The student is able to implement preventive conservation measures and choose appropriate and safe protective materials. The student is able to assess the condition of a photograph prints and proofs, negatives or other image materials. He/she is able to choose right storage methods and materials and implement them. The student masters the conservation process of photographic materials as well as their documentation (condition report, conservation plan, conservation report) and is able to implement them in accordance with the requirements of the profession.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student knows the importance of storage conditions and protective materials for the preservation of photographic material. The student is able to implement preventive conservation measures and choose protective materials.
The student evaluates the condition of a photograph, negative or other image material and is able to choose the right method of protection and implement it under the guidance. The student understands the conservation process of photographic materials and their documentation as a whole. The student is able to implement conservations measures and report the results. The student needs more practice to improve his/her craftsmanship.

The student understands the significance of right preservation methods and materials. The student is able to implement preventive conservation measures and choose appropriate and safe storage materials. The student is able to assess the condition of a photograph, print, negative or other image material and is independently able to implement the correct method of protection according the professional accuracy and craftsmanship. The student understands the process of conservation and the documentation as a whole (the description of the object, condition and damage reports, conservation plan and the report).

The goals of the course have been achieved commendably. The student understands the importance of storage conditions and protective materials for the preservation and degradation of photographic materials. The student is able to implement preventive conservation measures and choose appropriate and safe protective materials. The student is able to apply earlier studied for condition assessment and conservation treatments. The student is independently able to choose the right method of protection and apply with professional craftsmanship. The student masters the process of conservation independently. The student is able to produce comprehensive reports on the work.
