Profile of the programme
Laboratory analysts know how to conduct advanced biological and chemical analysis, and also how to develop and validate them. The curriculum puts an emphasis on analytics, laboratory quality systems and safety skills. Laboratory analysts know the operations of the laboratory and are able to independently take responsibility for laboratory operations.
Key learning outcomes
After graduation the laboratory analysts:
- are able to independently organize and take responsibility for laboratory operations
- know how to conduct advanced biological and chemical analysis, and also how to develop and validate them
- know principles of common analysis equipment used in the industry and in the research institutes, and know how to maintain the equipment
- can evaluate the analysis result with statistical methods and report the results accurately
- know the quality standards related to the laboratory environment and issues related to environmental and work safety
- know the law, regulations, statutes and standards related to the field
Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
Laboratory analysts work mainly in a laboratory environment like in research, product development and quality control but also in sales, marketing and customer service and in projects and supervisor positions. They have good job prospects. They work in the chemical, food, wood processing, medical, diagnostics and biotechnology industries, environmental or biomedical and medical research institutes and state laboratories. Typical job titles are laboratory analyst, laboratory coordinator, research assistant, technical researcher, laboratory engineer and quality expert.

Access to Master's studies according to the entrance qualifications of the university
Examination regulations, assessment and grading
Each course assessed using grading 0-5. Grade 0 = fail and grades 1-5 = pass. The assessment criteria is presented in each course description and the actual assessment methods depends on the teacher of the course.
