Descriptions

The Bachelor's Programme in Laboratory Science aims to prepare students for successful and impactful careers in the diverse field of laboratory science.
One of the primary focuses of the program is to ensure that students not only grasp the theoretical underpinnings of laboratory science but also acquire the practical skills essential for thriving in laboratory environments. This includes proficiency in different biological and chemical laboratory techniques and data analysis. It's an approach that bridges the gap between theory and practice and equips graduates with the competence to excel in real-world laboratory settings.
Additionally, the program fosters an interdisciplinary mindset, preparing students to address multifaceted real-world challenges. It does so by introducing topics like food and water analysis, green and sustainable chemistry, and forensic analysis. These areas reflect the multidisciplinary nature of laboratory science, empowering graduates with the capability to apply diverse perspectives to problem-solving.
Quality assurance and compliance are paramount in laboratory science, and the program ensures that students are thoroughly grounded in these principles. Students become familiar with laboratory quality systems, conducting statistical analysis, and maintaining analytical equipment. This expertise guarantees the reliability and credibility of their scientific work, a crucial aspect of their future careers.
The program also places a strong emphasis on "Real-World Experience" through work placements. These placements are designed to provide students with hands-on exposure, progressively advancing them from basic to advanced skills.
Applied Research and Communication is another essential objective. It equips students with the skills needed to communicate their findings effectively, a cornerstone of scientific progress. The culminating "Bachelor’s Thesis" provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge to practical projects, reinforcing the significance of articulate and impactful communication in the scientific community. International students will start studying the Finnish language at the beginning of their studies and will study 20 ECTS of Finnish during the two first study years.
