Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences students may apply for identification and accreditation of prior learning as part of their compulsory or optional studies, provided they have prior learning corresponding to the curriculum before the course in question begins.

The students’ prior learning can be recognised in their degree based on certificates or demonstration of skills. In the Degree Programme in Design the transfer of prior learning is always considered on a case-to-case basis.

Specific admission requirements

All applicants who have a bachelor's degree in Design or other relevant field are qualified to apply.

Additionally, all applicants are required to have two years of work experience in Design or other relevant field, acquired after the completion of the bachelor's degree. The work experience has to be acquired after the date of graduation and before the 31st of July on the year of applying for Master's studies. The university of applied sciences also approves work experience that has been acquired after completing an earlier degree, vocational or bachelor's level, from any field prior to the bachelor's degree that is the basis for the application. Three years of work experience from a relevant field is also required in this case.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading

According to the Degree Regulations of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences course assessment criteria are specified in the course implementation plan. The teacher in charge of the course will be responsible for the assessment. At the beginning of the course students must be informed on the assessment principles which must be based on the course objectives.

The assessment scale is as follows: excellent (5), very good (4), good (3), very satisfactory (2), satisfactory (1), fail (0) and pass (P). Any deviations of this scale will be decided by the President.

Mode of study

The studies are implemented through multiform teaching, which includes contact and online teaching, various information retrieval and analysis tasks and developmental assignments in the job sector.
