Metropolia is a continuously renewable multidisciplinary learning community that educates sought-after employees with high-quality, versatile, and international professional skills developed under the principle of lifelong learning. The students’ knowledge and skills are built cooperatively in a fruitful interaction with professional life.
Health Promotion Master’s degree is focused on the expertise on promotion and management of the health and well-being of the population. Professionals with a Bachelor's degree on in the social, health, or other relevant sciences and at least two years' work experience can continue their Health Promotion Expertise studies in this program.
Health promotion study program is planned in line with international health promotion competence criteria (International Union for Health Promotion and Health Education: Core Competencies and Professional Standards For Health Promotion, 2016) as well as by national reforms, strategies and competence needs. The degree studies includes Health Promotion core competence studies (30 ECTS), elective studies (30 ECTS) and research and development studies (30 ECTS), which include a thesis.
Working profiles of graduates:
You’ll reach expertise in health promotion, such as applying and developing evidence-based health promotion practices, multidisciplinary networking, coordination and leadership. Graduates are critical, development-oriented experts and can work in a variety of health and well-being roles in public, private, or third sector organizations or as entrepreneurs.
Development
In the development of the curriculum and pedagogy, there is active cooperation with organizations and experts responsible for health promotion. The project ‘Health Promotion Program (2016-2019, The Future of Health Promotion Competence, http://hpp.tlu.ee/fi /) financed by the EU's Central Baltic program has been used in the planning of the curriculum. The curriculum also follows competence criteria Core Competencies and Professional Standards for Health Promotion, defined by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE).
Key stakeholders in the degree development work are the National Institute of Health and wellbeing (THL), Helsinki University district hospital (HUS), regional health and wellbeing organizations, NGOs (Soste) as well as professional associations, municipalities and enterprises.

Objective
The skills and knowledge of students graduated from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences are described according to the NQF, National Qualifications Framework, and the recommendations of the Rectors' Conference of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences.
