Music Supporting Daily Life in Families and Communities (10 ECTS)

Learning outcomes

The student can create plans for pedagogical actions and structures for learner-centred practice in music education and apply these plans taking into account the need of the learners. They can reflect these pedagogical situations and develop their own learning according to these notions. The student is able to observe various pedagogical approaches and their implications to practice. They understand the elements affecting their pathways in becoming a music pedagogue and are able to utilise the feedback in this journey. The student widens actively their horizons of understanding learning, creativity and teaching by reflecting the gained theoretical, practical and experimental knowledge and experiences.

The student can use music activities and creative practice in new contexts also beyond the traditional education sector applying music education approaches in different working life contexts, e.g. in social and health care contexts and in education programmes of arts institutions. The student is flexible in collaboration and interaction supporting the shared direction and aims of the project. They can give and receive constructive feedback. The student can analyse the group dynamics and aspects that affect it. They are able to direct their own learning as a musician in various projects and working life contexts.

The student understands the demands emerging in different teaching contexts and are able to reflect on their experiences in relation to these. They can direct their own pathway of learning by challenging themselves also in gaining experiences outside the comfort zone as a music pedagogue.

Content

Learning occurs through participatory and creative group work, lectures, discussions, guided assignments both individually and in small groups, learning diary, written assignments based on literature and participation in the projects in collaboration with working life. The cornerstones are facilitated reflection and sharing one´s experiences in the group of peers.

Prerequisites

See competence goals for the Music and Children course. Individual assignments or learning tracks can be created according to recognised prior experiential learning.

Location and time

Opetus pääasiassa ti 9-15 ja to 9-15 välisinä aikoina. Tarkempi aikataulu vamuka-lakanassa. Vamuka opetus alkaa yhteisellä Megapäivällä to 3.9. klo 9.00-11.15, ja iltapäivällä klo 12.30-15.00 2.-4. vuoden sisällöt ja modulit vuosikursseittain.

Content scheduling

Opetus tapahtuu tiistaisin 9- 15 ja torstaisin 9-15 välisenä aikana. Tarkempi aikataulu ja sisällöt erillisessä vamukalakanassa syyslukukauden 2020 alussa.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Assessment is based on continuous evaluation of group work, given assignments, participation in the projects and the achieved learning in accordance with the learning outcomes of the course.
