Materials

The prerequisite material for the course is Carol Dweck's book Mindset: The Psychology of Success. Any edition and language version will work, and you can also use online summaries of the book and Dweck's lectures.

Teaching methods

Course Overview: Flipped Learning Approach

This course is based on the flipped learning model (Toivola & Silfverberg, 2016), where the goal is to develop self-directed learners, the method is collaborative learning and the teacher acts as a facilitator, supporting the learning process

How the Course Works

We’ll use **blended learning**, combining in-person sessions and online meetings

The flipped classroom method means you:
1. Study materials in Moodle on your own before the lecture
2. Then, join online discussions about the topic
3. Write reflections in Moodle — these will be assessed

Final Assignment

For the final assignment, you’ll:
- Analyze your current work situation
- Based on that, create a personal “theory-in-use" (your own approach or mindset for your work)
- Build a customized toolbox of practical methods and tools

You’ll develop and refine these in peer coaching teams with other students.

Practical Info
- We use Moodle as our learning platform. You’ll get login instructions in the first session.
- All course communication will be through Moodle and Oma (Metropolia's student intranet).
- Emails will go to your Metropolia email account — but you can forward them to your personal email if you prefer (more info about email forwarding is available on Metropolia's IT pages in Oma)
