Baroque and Classicism: History and Practices of Performance (5 cr)

Objective

The student
-knows the main repertoire, musical phenomena and stylistic features of the Baroque and Classical periods and can recognise them in the works they hear
- knows the main performance practices of the era’s music and can apply them to their own instrument
- comprehends the connections between social phenomena, music history, theory and performance of the period
- is able to apply this knowledge analytically, critically and creatively, both in writing and in their own musical interpretations.

Content

- Main musical phenomena, composers, repertoire, performance practices and social context of the stylistic period through lectures, listening examples and literary sources
- Investigation of the key phenomena of the stylistic period through written analysis tasks and learning exercises with the students’ own instruments
- Performing a piece from the stylistic period in a concert and writing a presentation about it

Luennot pe klo 9.45-11.15, luokka AS412, 7 luentokertaa, päivämäärät ilmoitetaan myöhemmin.
Ensimmäinen tapaamiskerta ilmoitetaan myöhemmin.
Verkko-osuus itsenäisesti noudattaen oppimistehtävien palautusaikataulua.
Päätöskonsertti luennon ajankohtaan Kammarissa, päivämäärä ilmoitetaan myöhemmin.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Hyväksytty/hylätty: Opiskelija tuntee barokin ja klassismin ajan keskeistä ohjelmistoa, musiikillisia ilmiöitä ja tyylipiirteitä ja tunnistaa niitä kuulemistaan teoksista. Hän tuntee aikakauden musiikin keskeisiä esittämiskäytäntöjä ja osaa soveltaa niitä omalla instrumentillaan.

Opiskelija hahmottaa yhteyksiä aikakauden yhteiskunnallisten ilmiöiden, musiikin historian, teorian ja esittämisen välillä. Hän osaa soveltaa tietoa analyyttisesti, kriittisesti ja luovasti sekä kirjallisesti että omissa musiikin tulkinnoissaan.

Assessment methods and criteria

Hyväksyttyyn suoritukseen edellytetään läsnäoloa luennoilla (vähintään 5/7) tai mahdollisia poissaoloja korvaavien tehtävien suoritus, kaikkien verkko-oppimistehtävien suorittaminen hyväksytysti sekä esiintyminen kurssin loppukonsertissa (tai korvaava tehtävä).
