Materials
Material will be provided - but also any textbook on Strategic Management, Corporate Strategy, or Strategic Entrepreneurship will also strongly be advised as supplemental reading material.
Teaching methods
This course applies lectures of material, basic review assignments, case studies and written assignments. This is an advanced course first reviewing relavant subjects (necessary to understand strategic management), such as Strategic Marketing, International Strategies, International Management, Project Management, Change Management, Strategic Entrepreneurship, and so on. Then the main focus in material and lectures will be on Strategic Management issues.
Employer connections
This is a high-level course - more focused on life-long learning, and a comprehensive perspective of business - most likely an entrance-level position will not be discussing these matters or applying these tools - yet. But this is a high-level view of how all subjects within a business curriculum are connected, how a business is really supposed to work - i.e. vertical integration, sustainable competitive advatage, strategic philosophies, elements leading failure, and those leading to success, global, international and multinational strategies, Webs analysis for sustainability, etc.
Exam schedules
90% of this course is comprised of written assignments.
International connections
International strategies and management are discussed. Also the individual final work may be on internationalization of the firm.
Student workload
This is individual and possibly pair work (up to students) – maximum amount of time required depends on the prerequisite knowledge plus individual and final work demands.
Content scheduling
A Gantt Chart showing the tasks with time and deadlines will be provided on the first day of classes and will include the review schedule of the relevant subjects along with specific Strategic Management areas of focus:
- Corporate Strategy and Connection to Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Sustainable Competitive Advantage
- Macro & Micro VC Analyses ? Countries, Industries, Competitors & Customers
- Analysis of Resources
- Developing Purpose & Strategy – Past, Present & Future
- Creating a schemata analysis - all types of tools - especially the Webs Analysis model
Further information
The more prerequisites in business, the better. A course on basic Strategic Marketing is assumed - other subjects are a plus.
