Objective

Upon completion of the course students will gain the basic know-how for research and development work and be familiar with the methods and models of development work. Student will understand the basic concepts of quantitative and qualitative research, be familiar with the research process and the principles of data analysis and interpretation and be able to communicate professionally in various research and development functions. Student will be familiar with research reporting practices and able to apply them in research and development work.

Learning materials will be provided in Moodle as the course progresses.

Teaching methods

Course includes both face-to-face and online teaching between 21.10.-7.12.2025.

Course includes lectures and written course assignments (incl. qualitative and quantitative assignments). The course also includes a mandatory communication and information seeking components.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student is able to analyze the business sector expertise and the development of his/her own expertise.

Assessment methods and criteria

The overall grade for the course is determined as follows:

0-49 points = Fail/0
50-59 = 1
60-69 = 2
70-79 = 3
80-89 = 4
90-100 = 5

In addition to the above, the information seeking component as well as the language and communication components both must be completed with a passing grade (PASS/FAIL).
