Objective

The student
• demonstrates the ability to develop organisational culture as a manager and to manage the know-how of human resources
• acts responsibly, respecting the existing legislation, and can proactively develop the organisation as a manager
• pays attention to well-being at work and has good networking and interaction skills
• connects human resource management to the strategy of the company
• can make legitimate decisions in organisational conflict situations
• is able to analyse different motives and can manage people individually
• renews the management and involvement of the employees
• can interpret the common paradigms of management and apply different kinds of management styles in a changing working environment.

Location and time

The online meetings according to the course timetable will take place in Zoom as follows:

Materials

The course materials will be available in Moodle one week before the course begins. Students are encouraged to use additional learning resources such as reliable online sources, up-to-date news, and library materials.

Students accepted for the course will receive a link to the Moodle learning environment and a course key from the OMA workspace.

The use of AI tools for completing assignments is encouraged, as long as it is clearly indicated. Metropolia's guidelines are followed, specific directive on this will be provided in Moodle.

Teaching methods

The course consists of four scheduled online sessions, independent assignments and quizzess, and interaction in Moodle.

The lectures will be recorded and available for viewing in the Moodle learning environment for students of the course for one month after the end of the course. Content scheduling

The learning environment will be opened in Moodle a week before the start of the course. The content may be opened in stages and/or supplemented with, for example, current materials.

To confirm their participation, students must submit the first assignment within the given deadline. If a registered student does not participate in the course, the instructor has the right to remove them from the course two weeks after the course begins.

The deadline for completing the course ends on November 23, 2025.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has completed basic requirements to pass the course and has made an attempt to apply and articulate concepts and information both verbally and in writing but has not made enough effort overall. The student has demonstrated little effort, interest and motivation for individual or team activities / assignments and the output is rather weak.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student can apply and articulate concepts and information well both verbally and in writing, certain areas of individual or team output require further attention; shows appropriate level of interest and motivation in individual and team activities. Good presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student demonstrates interest and motivation in individual and team activities and assignments, fully applies and clearly articulates concepts and information both verbally and in writing. The student is able to support their arguments with references to the recommended reading and lecture content. Excellent presentation delivery and analysis.

Assessment methods and criteria

Satisfactory 1-2
The student demonstrates a basic understanding of the course content but has difficulties with independent information retrieval, interpretation, and applying knowledge.

Good 3-4
The student demonstrates a good command of the course content. They actively seek information, interpret key connections, analyze their learning, and apply it in practice.

Excellent 5
The student demonstrates a broad and in-depth understanding of the course content. They have strong information retrieval skills and show independence and responsibility in their solutions. Their ability to apply knowledge in practice reflects creativity and versatility.
