Objective
The student can select appropriate assessment methods for functional ability as a basis for planning and implementing physiotherapy, considering the rehabilitees’ individual situations and their significant others as well as the phase of rehabilitation and the operational environment. They identify changes in the rehabilitees’ functional ability, especially if it is severely impaired, and are able to adjust their actions to the rehabilitees’ resources. Students develop their competence in instructing rehabilitees and their significant others, considering their resources and individual needs. Students gain competence in reviewing their own competence and actively accumulate their own competence as well as utilise their competence as part of multiprofessional work. Students utilise research knowledge in the promotion of their own competence as well as the development of neurological physiotherapy. The student knows how to combine the previously learned medical subjects into an entity of differential diagnosis that serves practical work. The student can develop the assessment skills of the patient’s general status as part of the patient’s physiotherapeutic examination and treatment monitoring.
Content
Functional ability assessment suitable for the relevant stage of rehabilitation which promotes the participation of the rehabilitee, physiotherapy planning, exercise and guidance
Physiotherapy as part of multiprofessional work
Confirming the experience of ability to a difficulty disabled client/client who needs special support and his/her close community in questions and decisions related to their own functional ability and life.
Assistive equipment promoting rehabilitees’ functional ability and training environment as part of the implementation of therapy
Implementation of physiotherapy while considering the rehabilitee’s individual situation, stage of rehabilitation and operating environment
Digital solutions in rehabilitation
Examination-based information and review of own skills in the development of neurological physiotherapy
Differential diagnosis as part of physiotherapeutic examination and monitoring

Exam schedules
Attendance is compulsory for 80% of the course, with any absences above this level being compensated by future implementation. Absences from workshop training (assisting with transition of a person with a spinal cord injury) will be compensated by future implementation. The assignments to be assessed will be discussed at the orientation.
The Symptoms & Signs section consists of two parts:
- The independent part, which is performed in the Moodle workspace. In the workspace, there are materials to be studied, a Moodle exam to be passed and a learning task to be returned. It is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the materials before the practical part, as all theoretical knowledge will be studied independently.
- The practical part, which focuses on the topics covered in the theoretical material. This part will be conducted on campus as a face-to-face course. Attendance is compulsory, absences will be compensated by future implementation.
As stated in Degree Regulations of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, a student who fails a course despite repeated attempts or does not complete the required components of a course must register again for the course and complete it in a manner agreed with the lecturer.
