Objective

The student can select appropriate assessment methods for functional ability as a basis for planning and implementing physiotherapy, considering the rehabilitees’ individual situations and their significant others as well as the phase of rehabilitation and the operational environment. They identify changes in the rehabilitees’ functional ability, especially if it is severely impaired, and are able to adjust their actions to the rehabilitees’ resources. Students develop their competence in instructing rehabilitees and their significant others, considering their resources and individual needs. Students gain competence in reviewing their own competence and actively accumulate their own competence as well as utilise their competence as part of multiprofessional work. Students utilise research knowledge in the promotion of their own competence as well as the development of neurological physiotherapy. The student knows how to combine the previously learned medical subjects into an entity of differential diagnosis that serves practical work. The student can develop the assessment skills of the patient’s general status as part of the patient’s physiotherapeutic examination and treatment monitoring.

Functional ability assessment suitable for the relevant stage of rehabilitation which promotes the participation of the rehabilitee, physiotherapy planning, exercise and guidance
Physiotherapy as part of multiprofessional work
Confirming the experience of ability to a difficulty disabled client/client who needs special support and his/her close community in questions and decisions related to their own functional ability and life.

Absences will be compensated in the manner determined by the teacher. Absences from workshop training (assisting with transition of a person with a spinal cord injury) will be compensated by future implementation.

As stated in Degree Regulations of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, a student who fails a course despite repeated attempts or does not complete the required components of a course must register again for the course and complete it in a manner agreed with the lecturer.

The prerequisite for participation in the course is that the previous studies according to the curriculum timing have been mainly completed.

The student confirms their place in the course by attending the first class or, if the student is unable to attend the start of the course due to illness, they can confirm their place by informing the teacher responsible for the course in advance by e-mail.

If the student has individualized educational support / study arrangements, shall this student contact the teacher of the course immediately after the end of the registration period (or latest before the start of the course.)

The assignments AND MATERIALS may not be used for any purpose other than your own studies. Their public distribution is only allowed with the permission of the teacher.

The course uses a Moodle course, to which a course key is provided via OMA before the start of the course.

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base. They also assess and develop their own functioning systematically. Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment. They also apply working methods flexibly and safely. Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of various situations, and in their work they commit themselves to the code of professional conduct.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students master professional concepts and make choices together with the client using the comprehensive knowledge base, in changing environments. They also assess their own functioning and produce knowledge to develop their operating environment. Students act independently and professionally and develop their working and operating environments together with other actors. Students work according to professional ethics considering the characteristics of complex and unpredictable situations. Their work develops and renews professional procedures and practices.

Students assess systematically the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions. Students act independently and professionally aiming at goals set to them in their operating environment as well as apply working methods appropriately and safely. Attendance in classes and collaboration with working life. Absences will be compensated as determined by the teacher.
