Objective

The student can describe the physical load factors of care and therapy work. Students can identify the importance of ergonomic principles in the prevention of musculoskeletal problems, and they are able to demonstrate their competence in using them in their own operations. Students are capable of planning and instructing clients’ safe assistance and transfer that supports the clients’ functional ability. The student can describe the basics of physical activity guidance and is able to implement individual and objective physical activity guidance for different-aged people, which supports the client’s functional ability and health as well as the client’s physical activity behaviour. The purpose of the work placement is to develop students’ professional competence to operate in dialogue in interaction with their work community and clients. Students know how to implement basic physiotherapy methods in a client-oriented manner. Students will identify and recognise the aspects of sustainable development in and affecting the work of physiotherapists. Students’ key professional competence and expertise deepen systematically as the studies progress. International collaboration in physiotherapy in the spring semester.

Basics of planning, guiding and instructing health-enhancing physical activity
Physical activity guidance and instruction skills
Students’ work placement is always a goal-oriented, supervised and evaluated activity.
International collaboration in physiotherapy in the spring semester

3rd and 4th period, Myllypuro campus.

Employer connections

Clinical practice 3 credits, 2 weeks, 35 h / week + independent research and assignments 5 h / week, or timing as otherwise agreed. Information about the clinical practice place must be reported via Wiki well in advance before the start of the clinical practice. Extract from the criminal record to be submitted at least one month before the start of the clinical practice. If the student does not submit the extract on time, the practice will not start.

Exam schedules

Completion of the Patient Safety e-learning and certificate stored in OMA by 21.4.2025.

Demonstration dates for the guidance competencies will be announced at the start of the course. Possibility to repeat the demonstration with the next implementation in autumn 2025.

According to the Degree Regulations of Metropolia, the student must re-register for the course and complete it in a manner agreed with the teacher if the student does not receive an acceptable assessment at the re-assessment sessions or if the required sub-credits are not completed.

If the student has individualized educational support / study arrangements, shall this student contact the teacher of the course immediately after the end of the registration period (or latest before the start of the course.)

It is not allowed to use or distribute any tasks, assignments or MATERIALS in any other way than in the student's own studies. Distributing ONLY with the teacher's personal permission.

Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer in advance. Being accepted to a course is conditional until the prior competence requirements determined for the course have been checked. If a registered student does not participate in the course implementation, the lecturer responsible for the course will remove the student from the implementation within two weeks from its start.

To be accepted, each assignment, small group discussion and clinical practice must be completed successfully and the practice tasks must be recorded and signed off tripartite in Workseed.

Qualifications

Student knows the basics of body functions and structures and assessment of functioning.
