Objective

The student can plan and implement logically advancing learning processes and apply learner-oriented, encouraging methods in the one-to-one tuition of their own instrument. The student can motivate the learner and provide multi-faceted feedback. The student can support the learner’s learning through planning of repertoire and is able to select teaching materials of a suitable level. The student can reflect their own learning process and activities as a teacher in their ePortfolio.

Content

Various forms of feedback, ergonomics, qualifications, wages and contractual practices of music education in Finland, individual and collaborative reflection, observation of teaching and learning, ePortfolio, one-to-one instrumental teaching practice.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student is able to plan logically progressive learning processes and apply learner-oriented, encouraging methods to them. The student is able to select the proper repertoire for learners and give multifaceted and motivating feedback. The student is able to reflect on and evaluate their own skills, activities and pedagogical learning processes both orally and in writing.

Qualifications

The student can plan learner-oriented and flexible one-to-one tuition and utilize typical teaching methods of music education and the one-to-one tuition of their own instrument. The student is able to describe the basic ethical principles of teaching and to consider the diversity of learning processes. The student is able to articulate their observations of student performance, identify various aspects affecting musical interaction, and apply these factors to their teaching.
