Objective

-are able to explain the effects of ageing on oral health
-are able to act according to the ethical principles of their field and multiprofessionally in the implementation of oral care of elderly people
-develop the daily oral care of elderly people with close relatives and nursing staff
- distinguish the key client groups in need of support among elderly client groups (memory rehabilitators, mental health, injuries)
-are able to work as part of a broader multi-professional team of general health and oral health

Student workload

Gerontology: lectures+ independent study 1 ects = 27h
Gerodontology: lectures+ independent study 1 ects = 27h
Practical studies in elderly care (including reflective seminar)+ independent studies 3 ects = 81 h

Content scheduling

1. phase: Theoretical studies in Gerontology, and Gerodontology
2. phase: Clinical training in elderly care units.
3. phase: Evaluation and reflection seminar

Further information

Compulsory attendance at the orientation lectures (Information including to the practice evaluation criteria in Elderly care units is given in orientation).
The student will present possible RPL decisions in the orientation lecture.
Earlier clinical studies in teaching clinic and in skills lab must be accomplished.
Approved course requires active presence and attendance in all parts of the course.
Students responsibility is to take care of her/his own accomplishments and replace the absence from the clinical training.

To accelerate the studies, you need a grade H3 for the previous courses.

Theoretical framework in this course is family care/ communal health promotion.

The student confirms his/her participation in the course by being present at the beginning of the first lesson or by agreeing on it with the teacher in other ways.
