The student
- Understands the line of business, structure and operators in graphical industry
- Understands the demands and requirements for use and selection of separate print media technologies and printed materials
- Masters the fundamental concepts and basic methods in the context of graphical technologies and materials
- Perceives and understands the processes and the basic mechanisms related to separate print media technologies
- Understands the different aspects and principles of visual designing and significance of visual culture for graphical technologies and products
- Masters the basic concepts in the field of marketing
- Masters the basics of productizing , branding and digital marketing
- Recognizes the received knowledge and is able to apply it to the homework, exercises and exams of the study course.

Content

This study course introduces the basics of graphical technologies. Its starting point is a selection of printed products, and the learning activities concentrate on the various technics and technologies these are manufactured as well as the specific demands for materials for each purpose. The course consists of illustrative videos, presentations and enclosed written lessons. The idea is to open up for students the framework of graphical industry with the relevant terminology, processes and production chains. In addition, the many aspects of visual design and its vital importance for the final result are considered in the context of print media. The study course contains exercises and drills for each independent part and a binding final examination to control the learning outcomes.

Students have achieved the course objectives fairly. Students will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s central concepts, models and is able to utilize the most common tools. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Students have achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement in some areas. Students know the course concepts and models well and are able to justify their decisions. The students are capable in applying their knowledge in new situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyse his/her own expertise and areas requiring further development.

Students have achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. Students master commendably the course subject area’s concepts, models and tools. Students are capable in making justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The students are well prepared to apply their knowledge in new situations. Students are mature to analyse the business sector expertise and the evolvement of their own expertise in graphic arts.
