Objective

Students
-describe provision of laboratory services in the health care sector as a whole and the laboratory testing process in clinical chemistry, haematology, transfusion medicine, clinical physiology, neurophysiology, nuclear medicine, clinical microbiology, pathology or molecular genetic
-explain the significance of tests relating to treatment of patients
- guide patients and clients competently and plan and implement collection, handling, preservation and transport of samples to a high quality standard in order to guarantee the eligibility of samples for testing purposes and they are willing to develop sampling activities
- are able to analyse samples in compliance with quality requirements and recommendations and explain the principles of methods and devices used in laboratory activities
- carry out internal quality control and external quality assessment, explain their methods and interpretation and function as required by these
-justify operations in keeping with the principles of occupational health and safety and patient safety.
- assess their own professional development and areas for operational improvement and develop their interaction, guidance and counselling and working community skills

Content

Guiding and counselling patients and clients, sampling and handling samples, tests, techniques and devices relating to clinical chemistry and haematology blood transfusions, clinical chemistry, haematology, transfusion medicine, clinical physiology, neurophysiology, nuclear medicine, clinical microbiology, pathology or molecular genetic laboratory activities andas well as quality control, interaction, guidance and counselling and working community skills.
