Objective

Students combine holistic health promotion, holistic human perception, biopsychosocial framework and osteopathic principles into their professional activities. Students bring their understanding of philosophy of osteopathy into practice, and are able to integrate it with updated scientific research. Students reflect on the meaning of health in osteopathic treatment, and
factors affecting health. Students describe health promotion as a socially multidimensional and multidisciplinary phenomenon, as well as a continuous process that allows people to increase and improve the control of their health. Students find out factors affecting person's health using the motivational conversation in accordance with philosophy of osteopathy. Students use the concepts of the philosophy of osteopathy, as well as make independent choices, examines issues related to interfaces in different fields, and are able to discuss of them together with the person. Students promote health holistically at individual level, and support the harmonious functioning of the autonomic nervous system with osteopathic treatment. Students promote the health of people in different life situations, and people living with different diseases in cooperation with them. Students are able to handle demanding, diverse cases in relation to health promotion challenges; look at them from different angles, search for new information critically and with a person-oriented approach.


Developmental psychology:
After the study unit, students understand the human development as a holistic, individual process also consisting of different areas. They recognise different phases of life, developmental targets and possible developmental delays. Students know how to assess the significance of crises or abnormal development to client’s holistic situation by means of various psychological human images.

Content

Meaning of health in osteopathic medicine. Health promotion at individual level in the profession of osteopath, with both guidance and treatment. Salutogenesis and health theories. Biopsychosocial model and philosophy of osteopathy . The effects of stress on health, and supporting the harmonious functioning of the autonomic nervous system. FirstBeat. Meaning of nutrition, sleep and rest. Exercise and diseases. Precautions for people who exercise.

Developmental psychology:
Holistic view of human development and function, development task theories. Various areas of mental development: emotional life, cognitive, psychosocial, psychomotor etc. development. Basics of temperament, affectional relationships and developmental crises. Psychological human image: psychodynamic, cognitive, humanistic, attachment theoretical, neuropsychological, system-theoretical and integrating approach.

Students analyse the relationships between appropriate core concepts as well as justify their choices using the knowledge base of their own professional field. They analyse the prerequisites and consequences of their own actions.
Students act according to the rules and instructions given in their operating environment, and they use working methods appropriately and safely.
Students work according to the professional ethics of their own field, and they act flexibly as group members.

Students act initiatively and goal-orientedly in diverse operating environments, and they apply working methods appropriately and safely.
