Objective
The student achieves the written proficiency in the second national language (Swedish) required by the Universities of Applied Sciences Act (1129/2014, Section 7) for tasks related to their field. The student is able to communicate in written Swedish in work life and as a member of a multidisciplinary work community. The student is familiar with and understands the structures and grammar of the Swedish language.
The student’s written communication skills in Swedish are at least at level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The student is able to seek information related to their professional field and read articles related to studies and working life. The student develops the ability and motivation to further improve their language skills.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student can communicate in common general and field-specific language situations at work. They can understand simple Swedish texts. They master basic vocabulary related to studies and work, but inaccuracies and influences from other languages may interfere with comprehension. They use the most common basic structures but make a lot of mistakes. They can understand questions presented in Swedish with the help of a dictionary and can read Swedish texts using a dictionary.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student can communicate fairly well in common general and field-specific language situations in the workplace. They understand Swedish texts fairly fluently. They have a good grasp of vocabulary related to studies and work as well as general language. They use Swedish basic structures fluently and understand the basic grammar of the language. They can understand questions presented in Swedish and read Swedish texts using a dictionary for help occasionally.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student can manage fluently in general and field-specific language situations in the workplace. They easily understand basic-level Swedish texts and know where to find information. They are motivated to develop their language skills. They have a broad vocabulary related to studies and work as well as general language. They use Swedish structures diversely and understand the grammar of the language. They easily understand questions presented in Swedish and can read Swedish texts without major challenges.
