Objective
FINNISH COMMUNICATION
- The student can follow the principles of academic writing and research communication
- The student is familiar with the principles of the thesis report of their degree and can apply them when reporting on a design project.
- The student is able to highlight their professional competence and express professional thinking both in writing and orally.
- The student can assess and develop their professional language and communication competence.
ENGLISH COMMUNICATION
- The student can use professional English in the profession of a building architect, both in theory and practice.
- They can communicate fluently and effectively in English in study- and work-related duties and to develop their professional skills in English.
- The student acts naturally in multicultural environments, taking into account the specific features and cultural starting points of communication situations.
- They are able to acquire, process and convey the information needed in their professional field from various sources, both in writing and orally.
- The student has a realistic understanding of their language and communication skills

Qualifications
The acquisition of professional English language and communication competence requires the starting level B2 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

FINNISH COMMUNICATION
With guidance, the student obtains information from databases and other sources and communicates it to others intelligibly with the help of instructions and model texts. The student follows the principles of research ethics when instructed. The student participates in presentations and interactions and characterises their own written and oral communicative competencies. The student lists features of multicultural communication situations.
ENGLISH COMMUNICATION
The student is confident in their communication skills so that they can deal with professional language use situations with clarifying questions and their own short speeches.
The student understands the communication of the interlocutor so that they can act appropriately based on it.
The student expresses their thoughts simply and mainly coherently and fairly intelligibly, even if there are shortcomings in the specific language of the professional field and there are language errors that hinder the transmission of the message.
The student prepares simple texts in a prescribed format independently and longer texts with the help of linguistic aids.

FINNISH COMMUNICATION
Additionally, the student obtains information from various databases and other sources and combines it selectively and analytically. The student usually follows academic conventions in their writing, producing mostly fluent texts. The student’s communication in professional settings is clear and interesting. The student both gives constructive feedback and uses feedback from others to develop their communicative skills.
The student evaluates their communicative skills, and justifies the evaluation. The student sets further goals for the development of their communicative skills. In multicultural communication, the student takes the recipient and situation into account.
ENGLISH COMMUNICATION
The student is confident in their communication skills to manage linguistic situations in the professional field in accordance with the objectives of the professional task.
The student exchanges ideas as an equal partner with an independent language user.
The student communicates proactively in professional linguistic situations, taking into account to some extent the language and cultural backgrounds of the participants and the demands of the situation.
The student uses clear and detailed expressions without delay.

Additionally, the student’s professional communication is both convincing and effective. The student writes competent and polished field-related texts. The student obtains versatile information independently, compares and combines the information and introduces their own views. The student can suggest ways to improve their professional communicative skills. In multicultural communication, the student modifies their communication according to the recipient and the situation.
ENGLISH COMMUNICATION
The student is confident in their communication skills so that they can take the initiative in language use situations in the field, following the practices of different communication situations.
The student exchanges ideas clearly and fluently as an equal partner with a skilled language user.
The student also communicates proactively in demanding professional language use situations, taking into account the linguistic and cultural backgrounds of the participants.
The student expresses theirself effectively and precisely.
The student uses demanding professional vocabulary accurately.
