Objective

The students are familiar with the key regulations concerning prevention of infections and understand the importance of asepsis in health care. They will be able to prevent the spread of microbes in care situations and understand the importance of cooperation in preventing infections.
The students will understand the significance of keeping medical records from a legal standpoint, and the key concepts and interrelationships of how medical records are kept. The student will learn about keeping medical records according to the process model for systematic care and the Finnish Care Classification (FinCC) system.
The students will learn to examine the patient’s vital functions using the ABCDE system and provide appropriate first aid. The students will learn how to resuscitate an adult cardiac arrest patient.

Content

Microbes and infectious diseases caused by them.
Microbial infection.
Natural defence mechanisms.
Specific immunity.
Hand and personal hygiene, cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation, waste management, isolation and precautionary measures, prevention of infections in connection with medical procedures.
Basic aseptic and ergonomic requirements for work in health care.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are familiar with aseptic and ergonomic ways of working in radiographer care situations. They understand the use of patient information systems in the patient’s treatment path and can, under guidance, enter key care information into the patient information systems. The student is able to provide basic first aid.

The students are able to work in an aseptic and ergonomic way in various radiographer care situations. They understand the use of patient information systems in the patient’s treatment path and can, under guidance, enter key care information into the patient information systems. The student is able to provide basic first aid.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to evaluate aseptic and ergonomic ways of working critically in various radiographer care situations. They understand the use of patient information systems in the patient’s treatment path and can enter key care information into the patient information systems. They will also be able to assess the patient’s need of care and know how to act in first aid situations.
