Objective

The student knows the basics of qualitative and quantitative analysis, standards and calibration. The student will know the basics of spectroscopy, chromatography and titrations. The student will understand the basics of environmental sampling. The student will be familiar with laboratory operations.

Content

-Basic equipment and methods in environmental chemistry
-Spectroscopy, volumetric methods and chromatography
-Qualitative and quantitative analysis
-Laboratory analytics

Qualifications

The student understands the essential concepts related to the structure of elements and compounds. The student is able to conduct basic calculations concerning the amount of substance, irreversible reactions, the contents of solutions and the pH of strong acids and bases.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able define or describe the subject matter related to the concepts and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the associated basic quantitative comparisons and calculations.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to apply, calculate, change and choose the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as to complete and produce the necessary information for the calculations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students is able to categorize, collect, combine and generalize the concepts related to the matter and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the basic quantitative calculations as well as derive and rearrange given basic information.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student is able define or describe the subject matter related to the concepts and phenomena qualitatively and calculate the associated basic quantitative comparisons and calculations.
