Objective
The student is able to identify materials used in painted wooden surfaces of artefacts and furniture, deteriorations of these surfaces and causes for deterioration. The student is able to identify paintings techniques and materials of different time periods. The student knows the work safety related to painted wooden surfaces.
The student knows how to analyze painted wooden surfaces and is able to do cross sections and color scales and is able to interpret them on a basic level. The student knows the applicable methods and materials for cleaning and consolidation of certain type of furniture and painted surfaces and materials used in the same. The student knows the methods and materials used in stripping of paint layers and understands the risk related to this procedure. The student is able estimate the pros and cons of different conservation treatments and choose the right solution in order to preserve both the artefact and the information included in it.
