Objective

Workplace skills and professional development
The student will be able to:
- adhere to the workplace practices, guidelines, and legislation governing client work at the workplace
- apply the ethical principles of occupational therapy and client-centred practice
- identify topics requiring guidance and engage in discussions about them
- identify strengths and areas for development during the work placement and for post-placement learning

Occupational therapy
The student will be able to:
- define and distinguish factors affecting an individual's occupational performance to enable meaningful activities for the individual
- name the individual's goals
- apply theoretical knowledge learned during studies and justify decisions in client situations
- conduct individual occupational therapy intervention in practice, utilising theoretical knowledge, assessment results, and guidance
- define factors related to the formation of the occupational therapy relationship
- report on the implemented occupational therapy both orally and in writing.

Content

Workplace practices, guidelines, regulations, legislation, and safety protocols as a foundation for ethical and legal compliance in occupational therapy
Job description and related tasks within different work environments
Client process planning and implementation with a focus on goal-oriented and client-centred occupational therapy
Application of theoretical knowledge in decision-making and intervention strategies
Use of assessment data, activity analysis, and therapeutic occupation/activity to support client engagement and well-being
Communication of the client process using oral and written documentation, including digital information systems
Learning objectives as a framework for personal and professional development
Supervision and self-reflection to enhance professional growth and self-awareness in occupational therapy practice

Qualifications

Before taking this course, the student must have successfully completed at least 75 ECTS, including the courses Environment in Occupational Therapy, Assessment Methods in Occupational Therapy, Work Placement for Occupational Therapists 1, Interaction and Guidance in the Occupational Therapy Relationship, and Adaptation of Occupation in Occupational Therapy.

Further information

The degree in occupational therapy includes four work placements for occupational therapists, totalling 40 ECTS. The students are instructed to choose placements that are as diverse as possible from each other (WFOT minimum standards). The students are responsible for finding their own placements. For the second placement, the student’s supervisor should be an occupational therapist.
