Special Cases and Work in the Eye HospitalLaajuus (10 ECTS)

Objective

After work placement students are able to perform independently comprehensive eye examination and contact lens fitting also to children, elderly people and special cases. Students are able to do prescription for spectacles or contact lenses and vision aids if needed. She/he is able to use diagnostic drugs safely manner and is able to perform cyclorefraction. She/he is able to exam eyes in various clinically significant cases to detect possible eye diseases, injuries and disorders and refer for further investigations and care if needed. Students are able to dispense spectacles also in special cases ja manage patient with non-tolerate cases.

Content

-Comprehencive eye examination in various ages
-Work in hospital, eye department
-Ocular imaging and vision field testing also in cases with ocular disease
-Contact lens fitting and after care including special lenses
-Cyclorefraction
-Patient cases in eye hospital
-Refractive surgery cases
-Examinations and after care/referral in various abnormal ocular conditions and binocular vision disorder cases
-Low vision examination and dispensing low vision aids
-Dispensing spectacles in various vocational purpose, special and non-tolerate cases

Qualifications

The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: Professional studies and practicals of previous semesters.

The prerequisites are fulfilled when the student has passed the following courses: Work placement can be started once the vocational studies and work placements of previous semesters and 140 credits have been completed.
