Objective

Students are able to decribe and explain the following points related to abnormal development and paediatric´s vision examination; assessment of visual acuity and refractive examination, myopia management, amblyopia, strabismus, nystagmus, paediatric eye disorders,paediatric spectacle dispensing, abnormal development of motor and cognitive skills, normal and abnormal vision development and optometrist role in paediatric vision health care
Students are able to
· refer child who needs special examinations because of learning and other difficulties
· plan symptom base eye examination and evaluate the child's vision
· use various visual acuity tests and methods for children of different ages
· investigate and, if necessary, manage if a patient have stabismus
· exam and distinguish between incomitant and con-comitant tropia

Optometrist's role in children's eye care - the role of optometrist and other professionals in screening, evaluation, and care

Qualifications

The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: Normal development of the child, binocular vision disorders, ocular health and its examination, general and ocular pharmacology.

The prerequisites are fulfilled when the student has passed the following courses: Orthoptics and Vision Correction, Abnormal ocular conditions – posterior segment, Abnormal ocular conditions – anterior segment, General Pharmacology, Ocular Pharmacology
