Objective

Students are able to
describe the abnormal conditions for the following ocular structures, also taking into account risk factors and treatment for: vitreous, choroid, retina, optic nerve and the optic nerve head
describe the connection and effect of systemic diseases on the eye
evaluate urgent situations
evaluate visual fields with automatic perimeter utilizing different test strategies
understand static perimeter principals
understand visual field defects and visual pathway
understand monocular and binocular indirect techniques.

Content

ABNORMAL OCULAR CONDITIONS:
Vitreous and vitreo-retinal diseases
Choroid (posterior uvea) diseases
Retinal diseases
Optic nerve head and papilla diseases
General diseases and the eye
EXAMINATION TECHNIQUES:
Evaluation of visual fields with automatic perimeter
Static perimetry
Stimulus luminance and sensitivity of the retina
Visual field defects and visual pathway
Visual field examination
Ophthalmoscopy - monocular and binocular indirect techniques

Qualifications

The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: General and ocular pathology and pharmacology, clinical optometry and investigative techniques.

The prerequisites are fulfilled when the student has passed the following courses: General Pharmacology, Ocular Pharmacology, Pathology 1, Pathology 2 and Clinical Optometry and Investigative Techniques .
