Objective
Students are able to:
Take an anamnesis and evaluate the suitability of contact lenses for the client
Evaluate the anterior eye and the suitability of contact lenses using a microscope
Evaluate the possibility of dry eye and, if necessary, give treatment instructions
Use keratometer and topographer and evaluate the significance of the results
Fit soft contact lenses including toric and multifocal contact lenses
Fit rigid oxygen-permeable spherical contact lenses in basic cases
Teach a contact lens client about wear and care of lenses and do the follow-up examination
Record the relevant fitting information clearly in the patient record and write the contact lens prescription.
Content
Examination, observation and evaluation of clinical signs, techniques and skills related to contact lens fitting
Client communication
Anamnesis in contact lens fitting
Examination and measurements of the anterior eye, including eyelid eversion, dry eye evaluation and use of diagnostic dyes
Inserting and removing lenses: different techniques
Fit evaluation
- soft spherical, toric and multifocals, RGP and scleral lenses
- fitting techniques

Qualifications
The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: An understanding of the general anatomy and physiology and the anatomy and physiology of the eye, as well as microbiology. Refraction and clinical optometry and investigative techniques.
The prerequisites are fulfilled when the student has passed the following courses: General Anatomy and Physiology, Ocular Anatomy and Physiology, Clinical Microbiology, Basics of the Eye Examination and Refraction.
