Objective

Students are able to:
Distinguish between the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism
Explain prescription entries
Distinguish between different lens types and coatings and describe their intended use
Compare the properties of different lens materials and lens designs, including high powers
Identify different frame materials and know how to handle them as required by the material
Measure the pupil distance for spectacles distance and near vision
Measure fitting height for different lens types
Calculate the required lens size for the frame
Adjust the frame to the customer
Describe the specific structures and viewing limitations of the progressive lenses
Describe how to act in case of accidental damage, manufacturing error or in cases where the customer is unsatisfied with their spectacles.

Eyeglass prescription
Spectacle lenses; materials, refractive indices, different surface treatments, optical properties, different lens types
The optical center of a spectacle lens
Pupil distance and fitting height
Spectacle frames; materials, parts, manufacturing, frame markings, frame selection for the customer
Presbyopic lens types
Consumer law practices
