Objective

The student will be able to
- understand the differences between becoming disabled as an older person and ageing as a disabled person
- recognise the significance of disability as part of an older person's identity and well-being
- describe neuropsychiatric symptoms and their impact on the life course of older people
- recognise the effects of different disabilities on functional ability and interaction
- identify ways to support inclusion of people with disabilities and promote equality in the service system.

Content

- Concepts of disability
- Disability in old age such as intellectual disability, sensory disability, mobility disability
- Ageing and neuromonics
- Supportive communication practices, clear communication and neuro-accessibility
- Status and rights of people with disabilities, intersectional discrimination
