Objective
The student
• is able to explain the antigen-antibody reaction
• understands the structures, functions and disorders of the human immunological defence system
• understands the importance of the complement system in the human defence system
• understands the HLA system and is able to explain rejection reactions related to tissue transplants
• understands the operation of the allergen and laboratory methods and examinations related to it
• understands the principle behind vaccination and is familiar with the general features of the Finnish vaccination programme
• is able to perform the most common immunochemical definitions and understands the principles of their functioning, while also assessing the reliability of results
• is able to evaluate the costs of immunochemical testing, and the life cycle and multiple purpose of the equipment used for the testing.
