Objective

The student
• understands the basic principles of autonomous robotic systems and is able to apply them in practical projects
• is able to program and use navigation, sensor fusion and dynamic decision making in autonomous robots
• is able to analyse the performance of robotic systems and optimise their operation in real-world applications.

• Navigation methods and route planning for autonomous robots
• Sensor fusion and environmental sensing
• Algorithms for obstacle avoidance and decision making
• Programming for autonomous locomotion

The student
• understands the basic principles of navigation
• understands the basics of sensor fusion
• is able to use predefined avoidance algorithms in simple environments
• is able to program simple functions for autonomous robots.

• can plan and implement a simple route
• is able to combine and use data in simple applications
• can implement a workable avoidance solution
•can execute the basic functions of an autonomous robot.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• is able to plan and optimise navigation in a dynamic environment
• is able to optimise and analyse complex sensor fusion applications
• is able to design and optimise complex avoidance algorithms
• is able to develop and optimise an autonomous robot system in a variety of ways.
